Demolition activity is a dangerous work to be performed. It has a lot of risks to the workers and the surrounding people.

Activity Associated Hazards
The following hazards pose threat to the workers and other people in the surrounding areas;
1. Pre-mature collapse of the structure
2. Exposure to electrical system
3. Exposure to the hazardous substances
4. Work at height and fall leading to injuries
5. Falling Material
6. Exposure to the sharp objects leading to cuts and injuries
7. Manual handling

Control Measures
1. survey of the building should be done to check the structural integrity;
2. Hazards Identification and Risk Assessment should be done;
3. Method Statement should be developed and implemented;
4. The area should be barricaded and safety chutes should be provided;
5. Authorized workers should be used for the work activity;
6. Hazardous substances should be identified;
7. Electrical wiring and system should be identified and isolated before commencement of job;
8. Gas and Water sources should be isolated;
9. Mechanical Aid should be used for handling objects;
10. Work at height should be avoided and if not possible, proper working platform should be used;
11. Competent workers with experience and knowledge should be allowed to use Full Body Harness;
13. Emergency Response plan should be in place;
14. Emergency Arrangements should be available;
15. Toolbox Talks, Information, Instruction, Signages should be communicated and placed;
