Telescopic Boom Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) is a special type of equipment, work platform that facilities the workforce to perform the work activities at height in a safe manner. 
The equipment or plant is installed with hydraulic systems to lift the workers to height, and a work platform. 

The work platform is installed with guard railing, control panel to control the movement, and anchoring points to harness the safety harness. The gate of the cage is provided with lock to ensure the gate is locked when being used. 

Work platform's floor is constructed of sound material to bear the load of the workers, materials, tools.
The platform is also provided with Toe Boards to prevent the fall of rolling objects and tools from height.
There should be no hole or gap in the work platform.

The plan carrying the work platform should be in good condition. Hydraulic system should be functional, hydraulic oil and other fluids level should be as per required level. 

The lighting, and warning system should be functional. Lights and warning claxon lights should be functional. Reverse horn, and operations horn should be working.

Following 👇 parameters can be checked and verified:

Physical Appearances
- The physical appearance should be satisfactory.
- The cabin should be in good condition, provided with lock to prevent misuse.
- Seat, seatbelt, control should be in good condition, and functional.

Engine Compartment
- Water, engine oil, brake oil, hydraulic oil level should be as per requirements.
- Battery should be properly attached, joints should be in good condition.
- Fan belt should be tight, not worn off or damaged.

Electrical Wiring
- Wirings, should be in good condition, insulated and labelled.
- Plug and connectors should be free of rust.

Lighting and Warning System
- Front, Rear, Brake Lights, Warning Lights, Interior Cabin Lights should be functional.
- Indicators and Parking Lights should be functional.
- Horn, and Reverse horn should be functional.

Tires
- Tires are in good condition, not worn off.
- Air pressure in the tires is as per requirements.
- Wheel lugs are tightened to the required torque.
- Spare Tire is available.

Hitch
- The hitch is in good condition, provided with safety lock, and inspected.
- The hitch is lubricated and greasing is done.

Emergency Equipment
- First Aid kit and Fire Extinguishers are provided and available with vehicle.

The vehicle should be inspected by the competent person in the presence of the operator to ensure both are aware of the current state.
Once inspection has been completed, observations should be made and closing remarks should be provided by the inspector to endorse that the vehicle is either fit for use or not.

The Inspection checklist should be forwarded to the HoD/MD or responsible person for review and approval.

- Safe work load is mentioned on the bucket.

- On bucket, light arrangements are made for workers.
- Indicators and Cabin interior lights are working properly.
- Reverse horn is working properly.
- Tires are in good condition, air pressure is correct, and spare tire is available.
- Fire Extinguisher and Safety Cones are available.
- First Aid kit is available in the cabin.

The checklist is just a sample. The user can modify it according to the need and equipment.

Method Statement with Inspection Form for Screeding Work


Screeding work is a process when the concrete finishers cutoff the extra concrete from the surface and bring its level to the proper grade and smoothness.

The work activity can be performed using a team as well as the equipment including the Screed Machine. The other methods include use of timer or wood bar to remove the extra concrete and making it smooth and of proper grade. The activity is performed when the concrete is wet.

Precautions
The checklist can be used to ensure the working equipment and lifting equipment both are safe and as per standard. Following items should be check using this checklist;

- The activity is subject to Permit to Work issued and authorized by the competent person.
- The crane operator, rigger, and working team personnel are trained, certified, experienced, and ready to perform the job.
-  The lifting accessories e.g., ropes, hooks are inspected, certified and well maintained.
- The crane is sited on a firm, even, open, area away from the surrounding structure.
- The area around the work activity is barricaded and cordoned off.
- Safety Signs are placed to ensure others are aware of the ongoing work activity.
- The work platform is inspected, maintained, and certified for lifting activity.
- The work platform is provided with door for entry and exit with lock capability.
- The mid rail and guard railing is provided on the working platform to prevent the fall of worker.
- The toe board is installed on all sides of platform to prevent the fall of tools, and rolling objects from height.
- The anchoring points of the work platform/ man basket are in good condition.
- The work basket is in good condition, well maintained. 
- The surface of the work basket is free of damage, cracks, and fishers.
- The harness anchoring points are provided for the workers. 
- The safe working load and maximum capacity of the man basket is mentioned on the visible location.

Anemometer is a device that consists of a rotating wheel, and if the winds blows it moves. The faster the wind blow, the faster the wheel rotates. The number of wheel rotations due to wind are calculated.

Onsite fuel storage is part of an activity but it must be ensured the fuel storage on the site is in compliance with the national legislation. The checklist can be used to ensure;
  1. The area should be free of ignition sources.
  2. Firefighting arrangements are implemented.
  3. Hot work, and flame producing activities are performed away from the storage area.
  4. The storage vessel is in good condition, free of rust, cracks etc.
  5. The vessel is suitable for the material that is being stored.
  6. The bunding is done around the storage vessel to ensure it is able to secure the 110% of the stored material in case of leakage. Bund wall around the storage vessel is at least 20 inches high.
  7. The vessel is made of sound material.
  8. The vessel is grounded by the competent person.
  9. Fencing is done around the storage area to keep people away from it. Height of the fence is 6ft.
  10. Fire safety drills are conducted on regular basis.
  11. Workers are trained to perform the emergency plan in case of accident.
  12. Emergency contact details and gadgets are provided for communication.
  13. Site is inspected daily, trash and rubbish that is easily ignitable is removed from site daily.
